You got it. No civilian reloads of mil brass, and the mil will lock up production at all US sites for a long long long time. Get it now or cry later. Good argument to stop buying the Wolf steel case and spend some money on reloadable brass.
I got 1k 223 in this week and going to the gun show tomorrow.

Re: Government Ordered Destruction Of All Military Spent Brass

Just checked Midway and they seem to have lots of 223 brass. Out of a couple of brands.

You can reload 223 brass a bunch of times, probably better than 20 if you anneal occasionally. I'm sitting on about 400 pieces of new 22 brass, mostly Winchester. I've got the primers and a bunch of powder but not nearly that many 223 bullets. Might be time to lay in a supply of cheap 60 grain spitzer bullets.

When I was shooting Hi-Power, everybody shot Lake City brass. The motivation for destroying it can't be good.

OK...OK.......UPDATE.......UPDATE......UPDATE..... ....POSSIBLE GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I called the NRA-ILA (INSTITUTE FOR LEGISLATIVE ACTION). I spoke with a guy named Eric and he put me on hold for a few minutes till he could get the latest info on this subject.

After returning to the phone he gave me a bunch of info. The NRA is definitely aware of the problem and have heard from some reloaded ammo companies and individuals. Eric rattled off all the DOD agencies invlolved and apparently this may have been "somewhat of a mistake" The ranking DOD agency has heard our concerns and condsiders them VALID!!

Right now, the word is from DOD to the NRA that they hope to have a WAIVER put into place within a two or three weeks which will CORRECT this situation and return once fired brass, .50 caliber and below to the sales policies previously used!!!

Eric said it might be helpful to call our Congressmen just in case and make them aware of the impact on the DOD budget, police training, and inidividual rights.

Anyway, I thought I would give you this information as soon as I could. Sounds like GREAT NEWS TO ME!!! We need to stay on this, though. I will get you the NRA-ILA phone number so you can call them next week if you want.

We don't want a waiver, we want NO LAW AT ALL. Waivers have a way of being rendered moot without anyone finding out.

Georgia Arms is located in Villa Rica, Georgia, about 30 miles west of Atlanta and is a major source of loaded ammo and components. They are a main reason I go to gun shows around here. Buy their products if you find them, they are first rate.

Day by day we are antagonized more and more.......

When first shot is fired......BE READY.

I TELL YOU THIS: AMMO, MAGS AND SIDEARMS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN SILVER NOW.

GET IT AND KEEP GETTING IT UNTIL YOU CANT FIND IT OR AFFORD IT.

BOTH WILL HAPPEN.

This post on ar15.com is apparently by an employee of Government Liquidation:

Tromatic is actually pretty close with his assessment. The facts as I know them, which come directly from candid discussions with my CEO, indicate the following:

- Prior to 11/2008, Demil B items required no mutilation for sale to the public. That policy changed in November, but several exceptions were granted. Expended munitions brass was one of those given a waiver.
- Enter the new administration. Since Demil B category items had been given a broad, general label as national security sensitive someone above the DRMS (likely in the DLA) reviewed the policy and immediately went with a CYA policy and yanked all exemptions. No thoughts or considerations were given to the implications of this policy change, but this directive was issued to DOD Surplus effective immediately last week.
- Shit storm blows up as a result. In particular, the letters, phone calls, and emails to our legislators, the media, and anyone else who would listen caused this policy to be review post haste.
- As of this morning our company was informed that expended munitions brass will now be reclassified as Demil Q which requires no mutilation unless sold to a foreign country.

There you have it. The policy change was simply the result of some n00b administrator attempting to close a perceived national security loophole and brass got caught up in the snare. There was no political motivation behind the policy change, but it is good that people like us were suspicious, got involved, and helped bring about a resolution.

Dear MSSA Friends,

I just received a phone call from the office of U.S. Senator Tester of Montana to inform me that at 5:15 (EST) today a letter cosigned by Senator Tester (D-MT) and Senator Baucus (D-MT) was faxed to the Department of Defense asking DoD to reverse its new policy requiring destruction of fired military cartridge brass. At 5:30, I am told, Testers office received a fax back from DoD saying that the brass destruction policy IS reversed.

Others report to me that they are already seeing evidence of this on the Websites of entities that liquidate surplus DoD commodities.

Our thanks go out to Senator Tester and Senator Baucus, and their staff, for getting on this problem promptly and making the reversal happen

Staff for Tester and Baucus promise they will get me the documentation for this reversal tomorrow morning. Ill forward that when I get it.

Best wishes,

Is buying Sellier and Bellot even worth it? How do you stack up brass casings? I know there is a premium on Norma brass, but what gives, people say things like they can get away with 10+ reloads with Norma, as opposed with plain ol Winchester, are the tolerances/materials between these manufacturers really that different?

I buy premium brass, almost always Lapua. There are significant differences in raw brass, both case to case uniformity and in the brass material. Before this current mess hit, Remchester brass in 223 cost around $0.20/piece and Lapua or Norma around $0.50.

In addition to the number of loads per, there are significant accuracy differences due to uniformity and concentricity.

There are some calibers that you can shoot out a barrel with 20 pieces of brass.

NOTICE!!!

A hardy congratulation is due to our loyal customers, our good friends, and our fellow shooting enthusiasts through out this great nation! Due to the diligent and overwhelming effort of many thousands of you, calling, writing, and emailing our elected officials, DOD Surplus, LLC, has rescinded its prior directive that ALL small arms spent casings be mutilated rather than recycled. This was a huge victory for common sense and we would like to thank each and every person who made an effort and played a role in correcting this mistake. We at Georgia Arms are proud of everyone who took the time and had the courage to stand up for our rights. We believe, that by your outpouring of anger and dismay, you not only extended our liberty and freedoms but also took a stand for economic common sense in a time when we know our government should be trying to reduce costs at all levels rather than throwing money away for some politically correct reason or the other. Again, our hat is off to everyone who helped and thanks to God as well. We will roll up our sleeves and go back to work; we have 223’s and 308’s to build! We will start shipping backorders today. (Below is a copy of the email we received from DOD on 3/17/09 @ 4:30pm)

GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!!

(This was pertaining to an outstanding bid on a lot of brass that we won prior to the mutilation order. DOD sent us a bill for the brass after we had refused it due to the mutilation requirements. DOD on Monday sent us a bill for the brass and when we responded that we had already refused it due to the mutilation clause, we received this reply via email.)

I am sorry you hadn’t been informed –

Word came down that all shells 50 caliber or smaller CAN still be purchased without the mutilation requirement as long as kept in the US.

(As it was in limbo, I did not sent your EUC to Battle Creek until today, also why I have not contacted you for payment until today.)

Thanks!

Suppliers of mil-surplus brass are opening up the faucets again. Earlier today Scharch/Top Brass didn't have rifle brass on their website, but it's back up now:
